November 13, 2015 – Kennesaw, GA – NorthStar Church in Kennesaw, Georgia has officially become Special Needs Certified. After many years of welcoming families with special needs, NorthStar decided to extend their mission and vision and part of this process was becoming Special Needs Certified.
Leaders of the church’s Image-ine Special Needs Ministry and other church volunteers recently completed Special Need Certified online training, so they can better minister to people with special needs.
“We are excited to have extremely informative teaching that is easily accessible and affordable. Special Needs Certified has made my job as Special Needs Director much easier by providing material that teaches all of our volunteers how to welcome every family, regardless of their abilities, home to NorthStar” said Courtney Miller, Director of Preschool and Special Needs.
After learning 80% of families with special needs stop attending church, Lindsey L. Turner, Founder of Special Needs Communities realized the importance for churches to have a special needs ministry. “It is our goal to connect churches that have a special needs ministry or wish to create one to families who desire to find a church in their community,” said Turner. The training provides vital tips to help churches reach out to individuals and families with special needs.
“Our Image-ine Special Needs Ministry began a new journey on Sunday, November 1st in celebrating God’s image in every person through officially opening our sensory room, a brand new Youth room, and our buddy system” said Miller. “Special Needs Communities has helped us to share our Image-ine vision and mission with ALL of our volunteers across the various ministries here at NorthStar including our Preschool, Children’s, Youth, and guest Services teams. Thank you, Special Needs Certified, for coming alongside churches and businesses and helping us to better serve our community and spreading the love of Christ!”
Special Needs Communities is a social enterprise focused on uniting communities and creating environments where everyone, regardless of their abilities, is treated with love and acceptance.
